Founded in 1870, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church has been gathering to hear and proclaim the good news of Jesus for 150 years. A congregation of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, St. Peter’s is a multi-generational community of Christians dedicated to following in the way of Christ. Since 1871, we have also operated St. Peter’s Lutheran School, which provides Christ-centered education to students from K-8.
We are committed to living out the values of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our mission is to grow as disciples of Jesus by following Jesus into each Next that He has planned for us - the next person, the next place, and the next moment.
We are created and loved by the only true God. God reveals Himself to us in Holy Scripture as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, three persons and yet one God.
In the beginning, God created the entire universe and everything in it by the power of His Word.
God loves all people and desires an intimate relationship with us. All human beings have broken that relationship with God by our sin and need restoration.
Because of God’s love, He sent His only Son, Jesus, to rescue us from our lost condition. Jesus was born, suffered, crucified and died in our place (Good Friday), and raised again.
The Holy Spirit draws us into a faith with God and we receive forgiveness and eternal life, restoring us to a relationship with our Creator, through baptism and Communion.
Scripture says that baptism is the connection of Jesus’ promise of life and forgiveness with regular water applied to each person from God to give them faith through the Spirit.
Jesus’ words say the Lord’s Supper is a miracle gift to believers. It is his body and blood with the bread and wine to forgive our sins and unite us with him and his church.
Through the Church and His Spirit, God equips and empowers believers to serve Him by serving others and sharing the good news about Jesus.
The Bible is the Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit, through human writers. These Scriptures are the sole source of our teaching to show us truth.

We invite you to explore who we are and join us in our pursuit of living out our faith in boldness and passion.
You're always welcome at St. Peter’s. We're saving a seat for you. Wherever you are in your faith, whatever challenges you face, or whatever you are celebrating, you’ll always be welcome in the gathering of St. Peter’s, as we seek to follow Jesus and share His gifts to the world.
St. Peter’s is committed to bringing peace through life-giving relationships between people, so that the eternal relationships with the Savior would flourish. We seek for everyone in the Big Rapids area to know a Christ-follower that they respect and share life with.
We are a Lutheran congregation and a member of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS). The LCMS is a group of about 6000 congregations who affiliate with one another - each congregation is different from others, and yet we share the same commitment to the Bible as the inspired, inerrant Word of God and to the Lutheran Confessions as a correct exposition of the Scriptures.
